Thirty-five minutes later, Hoss made a final pass around the rooms to check his team hadn’t missed anything. They had seized the Aguados’ home PC and a tablet device from Javier’s bedside table, but nothing else. Hoss saw the bottle of Xanax in the en-suite’s cabinet made out to Mrs D S Aguado, but there was little incriminating about that; two-thirds of Pinefort probably had a prescription for the same.

In the master bedroom, a leather purse hung from the closet door. Taking a card from the inside pocket of his jacket, Hoss dropped it into the purse, tucking it down so it wouldn’t be seen by the wrong person. The only things on the card were his name and cell number, handwritten. He didn’t really think Daniella would use it. But as they were leaving with little else to show for their efforts, it made him feel in some small way that their visit hadn’t been a complete waste of time.
